Once upon a time, about 30 years ago, in far far away country, under the foothills of Buyango, Kiziba in Bukoba
rural, Tanzania, early morning, long before the sun rose out of its habitat, when all was still and quiet , a voice of a woman
was heard. She was ululating. The rest of the village women grabbed their empty buckets and left in haste to the village well.
There they filled their buckets with water and placed them on their heads and walked single-file in the direction the ululation
came from. They had got the message. The ululating voice was a tradition way of announcing the birth of a newborn child within
the village community. The buckets of water symbolize life. The visit by the village women was intended to support, encourage,
congratulate and view the newborn child and welcome him in the community, the real world.
The
baby grew up strong, cheerful, and playful. He run and played soccer/football with peers in the vast, flat, hilly and grassy
plains of Tanzania. That of the gazelles roaming the safari plains could only surpass his energy and vitality. Little did
he know that one day he would be running on the flat plains of other regions and countries, chasing not soccer this time,
but higher education. He grew up surrounded by rich political climate featuring political giants such as the great, the late
Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Keneth Kaund of Zambia, Jomo Kenyetta and Daniel Arap Moi both of Kenya, Samora Machelle of Mozambique,
Nelson Mandela of South Africa and the one only, controversial figure Idd Amin Dada of Uganda. The climate excited in social
issues. As the apple falls not too far from treet, the young man pursued his Degree in Media Industry. For him information
is a tool of social change and transformation. He wants to influence his immediate and inaccessible communities. He is currently
working with local NGO to disseminate local and Agricultural information.
The
young man is continually blossoming and continues to stretch himself like a young bird flapping its young wings ready to take
off for the first time. It takes a good environment to nurture his dream and aspirations. But a fully informed, alert and
community, will be an ideal environment to nurture the spiritual needs for a holistic maturation.
Furthermore,
for an effective transformation of the world into a better place for all, political will, Determination, discipline, modern
media and ICT (Information Communication Tec knowledge) need the incorporation. The community values embodied by academic
institutions and solidly grounded in the Information Tec knowledge tradition will turn the real world into reality.
